The order update email tells a customer that something changed about their reserved order. It is sent automatically when something relevant changes, such as held items becoming available to add to a shipment or an estimated release date being updated.

When it sends

Addora sends this email in two situations:

  • Items available: when held items become available to add to a shipment, the customer is notified. Nothing has shipped yet, so the customer chooses when their items ship. A second email is not sent when the shipment is later prepared.
  • Release date changed: when the estimated release date for a held item is updated to a different date, the customer is notified with the old date and the new date. If you clear a release date, the customer gets a release date was removed update instead.

This is separate from the reminder email, which is time-based. The order update email is triggered by events on the order, not by a timer.

What you can customise

All wording is editable in Settings, Customer experience (in Addora ↗) under the Order hold updates tab. Built-in defaults are used for any field you leave blank.

  • Subject line: default is "Update about your reserved order from {shop_name}".
  • Heading: the main headline inside the email. Default: "Your reserved order was updated".
  • Body text: the message paragraphs. Available placeholders include {customer_first_name}, {shop_name}, {order_name}, {update_type} (a phrase like "your items are available to add to a shipment" or "the release date changed from ... to ..."), {available_count}, {release_date}, and {previous_release_date}.
  • Button label and link: optional. If the link is blank, Addora uses the Held Orders page detected during setup, or falls back to Shopify customer accounts. A custom link must start with https://.
  • Reply-to address: defaults to your store's contact email.
  • Order list: an optional checklist of the customer's reserved orders (on by default, shows up to 5 orders).
  • Store name: shown in the email header. Defaults to your Shopify store name.

Turning order update emails on

  1. Go to Settings, Customer experience (in Addora ↗).
  2. Open the Order hold updates tab.
  3. Check the automatically detected Held Orders destination, enter a custom link, or leave the button hidden when your store uses navigation or a custom journey.
  4. Adjust any wording you want to change.
  5. Toggle the email on and save.

To see a log of all update emails sent, open the Customer emails log (in Addora ↗) in Operations. See also See the emails Addora has sent.

Built-in notification defaults follow the resolved customer/storefront locale. Custom subject, heading and body overrides are shared text and are sent as entered, not automatically translated. The merchant app supports English, German, Spanish, French and Dutch. Test both default and customized emails in each language you use.

In Customer emails, use the shared branding controls to upload or link a logo, choose accent/background and preview the result. Preview changes are not saved settings; save deliberately before enabling delivery. The confirmation-template assistant has its own Generated email language choice.

Notifications require the relevant paid entitlement and enabled setting. Jobs can be queued, skipped or suppressed after rechecking eligibility or unsubscribe state. The daily schedule is not an inbox-time guarantee. Inspect the actual log/result; changing a date does not by itself promise a sent email.
